Fishing for Lake Trout and Burbot

(Anchorage) - Alaska has many locations that provide great opportunities for catching lake trout and burbot. Have you wanted to target these species, but aren’t sure where to begin? Join Patrick Hankins, from Chasing Tails Guide Service, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) staff at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (WJHSFH) on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a “Fishing for Lake Trout and Burbot” seminar. This seminar will be held in the WJHSFH conference room, located at 941 North Reeve Boulevard, Anchorage, Alaska.

This is a free event for anyone interested in learning about where to fish, which tackle to use, and how to target lake trout and burbot in both summer and winter. This seminar will focus primarily on the Upper Copper Basin Lakes, such as Lake Louise, Tyone, Susitna, and Crosswinds lakes. However, the information acquired on how to catch fish in these lakes can be transferred to other lakes that hold these species.

Advanced registration is required and space is limited, so sign up early! To register, please visit the Hunting and Fishing Forum webpage.

For those anglers who are interested in fishing but aren’t quite ready to commit to the required fishing equipment, ADF&G offers a free rod loaner program throughout the year. During the winter, anglers can borrow ice fishing rods, manual ice augers, buckets, and scoops. For more information, please contact the Anchorage Sport Fish Information Center at (907) 267-2218.
