ADF&G Releases Climate Change Strategy

(Juneau) – Today, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) released its Climate Change Strategy that describes expected impacts from our changing climate on fish and wildlife resources and their uses across Alaska. The document points to needed research, and identifies key strategies and initial actions the department intends to take in order to address anticipated impacts.

Doug Vincent-Lang, Special Assistant with the department, coordinated the strategy development effort.

“The changing climate brings additional challenges to managing fish and wildlife and their uses. This strategy helps us define the challenges and identifies important steps we will be taking to prepare and adapt,” said Vincent-Lang. “We believe focusing on these issues  positions the department as an integral partner in managing impacted resources and  effects on our economy and culture.”

This effort was undertaken to inform Governor Parnell’s Climate Change Subcabinet. The subcabinet was created by Administrative Order in 2007 to advise the governor on the preparation and implementation of an integrated Alaska climate change strategy. Information on the state climate change effort can be found at www.climatechange.alaska.gov.
