Board of Game to Meet in Barrow, November 11-14

(Juneau) – The Alaska Board of Game will meet November 11 – 14, 2011, in Barrow at the Inupiat Heritage Center to consider over 35 proposals regarding hunting and trapping regulations in the Arctic and Western regions as well as other topics.

Proposals have been submitted by the Department of Fish and Game, state advisory committees, and the general public seeking adjustments to hunting and trapping regulations in the Arctic and Western regions (Game Management Units [GMU] 18, 22, 23, and 26A). Issues to be addressed by the board include hunting and trapping seasons, bag limits, and methods and means for taking game. In addition, the board will address trophy destruction of muskox for GMUs 22 and 23, and intensive management for GMU 15 (Kenai Peninsula) and GMU 9 (Alaska Peninsula).

The board will take oral public testimony beginning Friday, November 11, following department reports. Anyone wishing to testify before the board must sign up at the meeting location before Saturday, November 12, at 2:00 pm. Public testimony will continue until everyone who has signed up has been given the opportunity to be heard. Deliberations on the proposals will begin following public testimony and continue through the remainder of the meeting.

Written comments will be accepted on specific proposals up until the proposal is deliberated. Written comments up to 10 pages in length may be faxed to (907) 465-6094.
