Kenai Peninsula Registration Goat Hunts Open November 1

Healthy mountain goat numbers on the Kenai Peninsula and low draw-hunt harvests earlier this fall have led to late-season registration goat hunt opportunities in Game Management Unit 15. Scheduled to open November 1- November 14, the hunts include:

  • RG346, Resurrection Peninsula (limited to 36 permits)
  • RG359, Bradley Lake (limited to 20 permits)
  • RG360, Dixon Glacier (limited to 28 permits)
  • RG363, Port Dick (limited to 16 permits)
  • RG364, Seldovia (limited to 16 permits, residents only)

Late-season harvest quotas are based on goat units left over from the draw-hunt season. Goat units are calculated using one unit for billies and two units for nannies. Hunters are reminded that the preferable harvest in these units is one billy. Hunters who harvest a nanny will be ineligible to hunt goats on the Kenai for five years. The taking of nannies accompanied by a kid is prohibited.

Information for sex identification of mountain goats in the field is provided at http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=goatidentification.main.

Permits will be available beginning October 27 online at http://hunt.alaska.gov, or in person at department offices in Anchorage, Palmer, Homer, or Soldotna.
