Registration Caribou Hunt Scheduled to Open in GMU 9C on February 25

(King Salmon) - The Department of Fish and Game is opening a registration permit hunt for Mulchatna caribou in Game Management Unit 9C with a bag limit of one caribou. Any resident hunter who has not harvested a caribou in Alaska since July 1, 2012, is eligible to participate in this hunt.

The hunt area includes lands north of the Alaska Peninsula Highway, west of King Salmon Creek and Katmai National Park, and south of the Alagnak Drainage. Permits are valid from February 25 to March 15, or until the season is closed by emergency order. If caribou from the Northern Alaska Peninsula Caribou Herd approach the Naknek River, an immediate closure of this permit hunt will be announced. Permits are available online or beginning February 25 at the Fish and Game office in King Salmon during normal office hours. Hunters who choose to apply for permits at the King Salmon Fish and Game office must do so in person. In either case, a valid hunting license is required to obtain a permit.
