Deputy Commissioner Ben Mulligan has a long, successful history working on fish and game related issues and working closely with lawmakers on those issues. He has also spent time working for Alaska’s business community. He acted as special assistant and legislative liaison for ADF&G from 2010 to 2015 before joining the Alaska Chamber where he served as vice-president.

Prior to 2010, he worked for Rep. Bill Stoltze in a variety of positions including chief of staff. He earned his B.S. in biology with a fisheries emphasis from the University of Wyoming. During college breaks, he worked for the ADF&G on fisheries-related projects across the state."

A lifelong Alaskan, Mulligan grew up in Palmer surrounded by a family that loved to be outside and plenty of opportunity to take advantage of what Alaska has to offer. On any day growing up you might find him cross-country skiing in Crevasse Moraine, hiking in Hatcher Pass or on Lazy Mountain, hunting in the Talkeetna Mountains or fishing in nearly any lake or stream he could find.

As deputy commissioner, Mulligan is responsible for overseeing statewide fisheries and wildlife regulatory and management issues. He also acts as chief of staff to the commissioner.

"I have appreciated the complexity and importance of fish and wildlife issues in Alaska since I started work at my first fisheries technician job in Bristol Bay," said Mulligan. "The department is full of Alaskans who love their jobs and the resource they help manage. I look forward to working on those issues with them once again on behalf of the commissioner and all Alaskans."
