2023/24 Bering Sea Snow Crab Fishery
Disaster Relief Fund Final Spend Plan

On April 29, 2024, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the 2023/24 Alaska Bering Sea Snow Crab Fishery, under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a December 8, 2023, request from Governor Dunleavy. NOAA Fisheries allocated $39.5 million to address losses to the affected management areas.

The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, provided an initial draft spend plan for public comment in July 2024 and received nine written comments. ADF&G revised the plan based on public comments and posted a second draft plan in October 2024 and received six written comments. NOAA Fisheries announced supplemental funds in June 2026 and per public comments and stakeholder suggestions, ADF&G drafted a third spend plan with the total allocation amount for public comment. ADF&G posted the third draft spend plan in July 2026 and received 14 written comments.

The final spend plan will be sent to Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC), the administrator of the federal grant for the disaster funds. Once the federal grant has been approved, PSMFC can begin the fund distribution process.
