2023/24 Bering Sea Snow Crab Fishery
Disaster Relief Fund Initial Draft Spend Plan

On April 29, 2024, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the 2023/24 Alaska Bering Sea Snow Crab Fishery, under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a December 8, 2023, request from Governor Dunleavy. Funding has not been allocated for this fishery disaster yet, therefore, estimated dollar amounts are not included in this initial draft spend plan. The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, has drafted an initial spend plan and is now requesting public comments from affected stakeholders.

Comments should be received by July 19, 2024, to be considered for the second draft of the spend plan. A second draft of the spend plan will be available for public comment before the plan is finalized.

The final spend plan will be sent to Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC), the administrator of the federal grant for the disaster funds. Once the federal grant has been approved, PSMFC can begin the fund distribution process.
