Freshwater Fishing

  • Saltery sockeye are continuing to come in good numbers and fishing has been good in the last week, with notable pulses of fish coming in with the tides. Pinks are showing up as well and will likely continue to increase in the coming weeks.
  • Fishing at Pasagshak has picked back up again with good numbers of fish coming in with each tide.
  • Pinks are showing up in many road system rivers but Buskin and Monashka Creek are having some of the better runs so far. Other spots to find bright pinks are the Olds, Pillar Creek, and Chiniak beaches.
  • Dollies are still being found in the Buskin, Monashka Bay and virtually all beaches on the road system. There seems to be an incredible Dolly run this year.

Saltwater Fishing

  • King salmon fishing continues to be exceptional. Most anglers report catching more kings than silvers right now and fish over 30lbs are being found regularly. The go-to spot has been near Buoy 4 and the Fingers.
  • Coho are also in near Buoy 4 and are being caught trolling and jigging. There doesn’t seem to be the same numbers of fish as the last 2 seasons, but fishing has still been really good in the last week.
  • Halibut fishing continues to be decent with many folks reporting catching them trolling for silvers and kings. They are being found commonly in the Buoy 4 area in water from 70 to 120 ft.
  • Rockfish are being caught in most areas of Chiniak Bay and beyond. See the emergency order below for more info for nonresident limits.
    • Check your 2022 Southwest Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet for species identification information.
    • The use of a deepwater release mechanism is required on all sportfishing vessels in Alaska and they must be used to release rockfish back down to a depth of capture or 100 feet, whichever is shallower. Ever heard of the deepwater release? Check out our webpage for more info.

Local Lakes

17 Road system lakes were recently stocked with Rainbow Trout. Don’t get too excited though as they are just over 1 gram right now and will take about 3 years to reach a catchable size. All of our 17 stocked lakes, however, have multiple age classes and offer fairly consistent rainbow fishing year-round.
