(Ketchikan) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced today that the opportunity to harvest Alaska hatchery-produced king salmon in the Carroll Inlet Terminal Harvest Area (THA) will open June 1. The bag and possession limit for all anglers in the terminal waters of Carroll Inlet is one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length. For nonresidents, the annual limit is three king salmon, 28 inches or great in length.

The terminal harvest area is defined as follows:

Carroll Inlet THA

In the waters of Carroll Inlet north of the latitude of Nigelius Point at 55°33.50′ N. lat., 131°21.14′ W. long., (see attached map)

The Alaska Board of Fisheries authorized the department to use its emergency order authority to open terminal harvest areas to target surplus Alaska hatchery king salmon. In 2022, the marine waters surrounding Carroll Inlet (Mountain Point Area) will be open to harvest opportunity beginning on June 8. One additional week of opportunity is being provided in the head of Carroll Inlet, where the interception of Alaska wild stock king salmon is least likely and is consistent with the timing of commercial harvest opportunity in the Carroll Inlet THA.

Anglers are reminded that until June 15, the salt waters outside of the designated hatchery sport harvest areas are closed to king salmon retention. Therefore, anglers fishing in multiple areas for other species must be diligent in ensuring they do not possess king salmon when fishing in areas that prohibit the retention of king salmon.
