Retention of king salmon in the Kenai River personal use dipnet fishery will be restored beginning 6:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25.
Only one king salmon may be retained from the Kenai River personal use dip net fishery for each household permit. The Kenai River Late-Run King Salmon management plan prohibits the retention of king salmon in the personal use fishery if bait is prohibited in the Kenai River sport fishery. The management plan also includes restrictions to commercial fishing. Since an emergency order has been issued to allow the use of bait in the Kenai River sport fishery the annual limit of one king salmon per household permit has been restored to the Kenai River personal use dip net fishery.
The personal use fishery is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day, through July 31. Permits can be obtained online at www.adfg.alaska.gov . Some vendors are running low on the Upper Cook Inlet personal use dipnet permits and it is recommended that dipnetters get their permits online. Dipnettters can also report harvest online.
