DEPARTMENT INVITES PUBLIC TO PRESENTATIONS ON 2012 KING SALMON OUTLOOK, MANAGEMENT IN SUSITNA AND KENAI RIVERS

The public is invited to attend presentations this month in Palmer and Kenai that will review this season’s king salmon outlooks and management strategies for commercial and sport fisheries. 

The presentation in Palmer will be held on Monday, May 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office located at 1800 Glenn Highway, Suite 2. Fisheries biologists will present management strategies for the Northern Cook Inlet commercial king salmon fishery and inriver sport fisheries for the Susitna River drainage and Little Susitna River.

The presentation in Kenai will be held on Wednesday, May 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture building located at 40610 Kalifornsky Beach Road. Fisheries biologists will present management strategies for the Cook Inlet commercial fishery and inriver sport fisheries for the Kenai River. Staff will also present information on data used to assess the inseason run-strength of king salmon and management objectives that will be used to ensure adequate escapement of king salmon into the Kenai River.
